Families across Weston-super-Mare are set to benefit from new free breakfast clubs, launching as children return to school after the Easter break.
Four local schools are now taking part in the Government’s Best Start programme:
• Oldmixon Primary School
• Windwhistle Primary School
• Westhaven School
• Bournville Primary School
The rollout will provide children with a healthy start to the day alongside 30 minutes of free childcare each morning, giving parents valuable extra time and helping ease the pressures of the school run.
The launch marks a major step forward for local families, with parents in Weston expected to save up to £450 a year, as well as gaining up to 95 additional hours of childcare annually.
The programme is being delivered in schools serving communities that need it most, ensuring children arrive at school ready to learn while supporting working families with the cost of living.
Dan Aldridge, MP for Weston-super-Mare, welcomed the launch and praised the schools involved:
“I'm really pleased to see four schools here in Weston launching free breakfast clubs as children head back after the Easter break. This is a practical change that will make a real difference to families’ daily lives.
“This isn’t just about a healthy meal to start the day , it’s about giving parents a bit more breathing room in the morning. I know from my own experience how hectic school runs can be, especially when you’re juggling work and multiple drop-offs. This would have been a game changer.
“These clubs will help children settle in, focus in class and get the best possible start to their day, while also saving families money at a time when every penny counts.”
