About Us

Local news, where you want it, when you want it.

We Want To Hear From You

Editorial Guidelines

Weston Independent News was founded in 2020 with the aim of providing an alternative news source for the community in Weston Super Mare.

Since then we have grown across in a news organisation publishing articles and videos via our website and multi-social media platforms.

We want to hear your stories! If you have information on a news story that you think needs investigating, or feel that now is the time to blow the whistle on something the community needs to know, then get in touch.

We also want to connect with the community through our "Made in Weston" features which will dive into the lives of residents in the town and share their personal stories about who they are and what made them the person they are today.

Weston Independent News is one of Weston-super-Mare's most trusted news brands. Since 2020 we have brought words and pictures from the most important local events to hundreds of thousands of readers via online written and video content. We are committed to reporting the news accurately and with energy and vigour.

Weston Independent News prides itself on its strong social conscience and politically we sit left of centre. Our mission is to make sense of local news and events for our readers. To challenge wrongs where we see them. To stand up for the underdog against authority. And to entertain.

Verification and fact checking

We expect our staff to use their best endeavours to verify the stories being put forward for publication.

Unnamed sources

Journalists have an obligation under IPSO’s Editors’ Code of Practice to protect their sources, but we also have a duty to establish that the sources we use are reliable and that material has been appropriately obtained. Story provenance is ultimately the responsibility of the Editor.

When using unnamed sources, the company relies on the integrity, experience and professionalism of its staff.
