First-of-its-kind event puts UK coastal communities at the centre of cyber resilience.

A new national initiative, CSIDES, is launching on the Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare to tackle one of the UK’s most pressing but overlooked challenges: improving cyber resilience in coastal communities.

Bringing together experts from across the UK’s cyber, education, and public service sectors, CSIDES — short for Coastal, Community, Cyber — will blend expert-led workshops, engaging talks, and live demonstrations to help people of all ages and experience levels stay safe online.

The initiative is spearheaded by cyber security consultancy 4FOX Security and community interest company Defend Together CIC, in collaboration with local businesses, academia, and industry sponsors.

Cyber security isn't just a big city issue,” said Hazel McPherson, founder of 4FOX Security and one of the event's organisers. “Many coastal communities face rising digital threats but have been historically underrepresented in national cyber strategy. CSIDES is our answer: practical, inclusive, and unapologetically seaside.”

The one-day event will feature:

Workshops for small business owners, students and career changers, community leaders, and the general public.

Talks from leading experts in cyber risk, digital safety, and resilience

Interactive exhibits and demos from experts, industry, and academia

An inclusive Cyber House Party afterparty to celebrate collaboration and raise funds for local causes

From phishing scams and ransomware to data protection and digital careers, CSIDES aims to empower everyday people with the tools, confidence, and community support to defend themselves online.

Tickets for the public, professionals, and supporters are available now via Eventbrite:
