Poundland on Weston-super-Mare High St has been saved in a last minute deal which will see the store re-open on Saturday January 10th.

A petition had been signed by hundreds of local businesses and residents calling for the store to stay open.

Local MP Dan Aldridge, who has been campaigning to save the store said; “It’s a Christmas miracle, Poundland's been saved!

It will be reopening on 10th January, and I know this will be a huge relief and very welcome news for the brilliant staff at the store, led by Mark and his team, who work so hard for our community.

This shows the real power of community action. When residents speak up, and when councillors and politicians work together, we can make change happen. I’m grateful to everyone who raised concerns, signed petitions, pushed for answers, and helped make the case for keeping this store open.

I know this must have been such a stressful time for staff, and I am glad you have got positive news before christmas.

We need shops on our high street. They provide jobs, footfall, and affordable essentials for local people, and they keep Weston town centre alive and thriving.

I’ll keep fighting for a busy, supported high street that works for everyone.”
