A campaign launched by Weston’s MP Dan Aldridge and supported by Weston Labour Party is fighting to save the future of Worle Library and has received widespread support from the local community.

Worle Library was visited 22,000 times in 2024/25. However, following the discovery of wet rot and damp in February the council said it cannot afford the significant costs required to repair and maintain the building.

North Somerset Council has suggested that libraries marked for closure could potentially continue running if taken over by parish or town councils, as happened in Congresbury in 2017.

The council also said that Worle is just a mile and a half from the Campus Library, but many residents have raised concerns that people without transport will lose easy access to a library service.

A spokesperson for Weston Labour Party said; “This weekend Labour activists gathered outside Worle Library to show our support for saving this vital community resource. We believe that our library is much more than a building. It’s a door to learning, togetherness and opportunity for everyone in our village.”

“The council is running a consultation on proposed changes to our library service and we need YOUR voice. Your views matter: whether you’re a regular library-user, a parent, a student, a retiree or just someone who cares about what our community will look like in the future.”
