Man arrested after woman becomes unwell after vape from Weston Supermarket

A 20 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance and drug supply offences. Several vapes have been seized and will be sent for examination. The man remains in custody while officers continue further enquiries and searches.


A spokesperson for Avon & Somerset Police said;


“We are aware of an incident that occurred on Saturday 21 March, in which a woman became unwell shortly after being given a sample vape at Weston Supermarket on St James Street, Weston-Super-Mare. We recognise how distressing this must have been for the victim and her friends.”


”Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Avon and Somerset Police on 101, quoting crime reference 5226079169.


Officers from the Town Centre Neighbourhood Team have now taken ownership of the investigation.


”We understand the community has concerns relating to Weston Supermarket. We urge the public to continue working with us and to trust the investigative process. We have been exploring a range of intervention options for some time, and any new allegations will be taken seriously and investigated on their own merit, as with any crime report.”


“We ask the public to avoid speculation on social media, as this could prejudice any future court proceedings.”
