Town Centre Street Warden to leave role after almost a decade of service

Simon Vowles, who had been a familiar face in Weston Centre for the best part of a decade, patrolling the town centre as part of the Street Warden team funded by Weston Bid is stepping down from his role this month.

During his time serving the local community, Simon has been commended for his actions in a number of incidents including back in February this year where he was praised as “a hero” by local councillors and Weston’s MP; Dan Aldridge, when he was injured restraining a male in the town centre.
Speaking at the time, Dan Aldridge MP said: “Thank you to Simon for his swift action and bravery. I’m incredibly grateful to have him in our community, a real Weston hero.
“He’s made our streets safer, and I cannot thank him enough. He’s put our community’s safety before his own, stopping the potential of a more serious crime.”
On leaving his role after almost a decade Simon said: “After 9 1/2 years as a Street Warden I will be leaving the role, I will miss the day to day of the job, and walking, talking and seeing people. Especially popping into shops that have air conditioning in the Summer and heating in the Winter! I have made a lot of friends along the way and look forward to pastures new”
Simon will be continuing his career in the security sector in another role
