Work to refurbish traffic signals on New Bristol Road in Weston-super-Mare begins on Monday 4 August.
The scheme, which will take up to three weeks to complete, will be carried out at the junction with Station Road.
The work is part of North Somerset Council’s 15-year replacement programme and the traffic signal controller, signal heads, poles, cabling and any other ancillary equipment will be replaced. Two additional pedestrian crossing points will also be installed at the junction.
During these works, temporary signals will be in place to allow the changes to be made safely and to allow pedestrians to safely cross the road.
The works will be carried out by Yunex Traffic, the council’s maintenance contractor for traffic signals.
Cllr Hannah Young, North Somerset Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for roads said:
“This is a busy junction in Weston and we appreciate the project will cause some delays particularly at peak times. We are committed to improving the infrastructure of our road network and ensuring our traffic signals are maintained effectively is a key part of this.
“We are also installing two new crossings points to improve safety for those using this popular junction. We would like to thank people for their patience while these essential works are completed.”
