The governments "Plan for Change" will deliver urgent repairs and upgrades to Mead Vale, Mendip Green, Milton Park, and Windwhistle Primary Schools
Pupils across Weston are set to benefit from vital upgrades to their schools as part of a £20.6 million investment package for the South West, delivered through Labour’s Condition Improvement Fund (CIF). Local schools receiving funding include Mead Vale Community Primary School, Mendip Green Primary School, Milton Park Primary School, and Windwhistle Primary School.
This funding is part of the Labour governments wider £1.2 billion national commitment to repair and modernise schools and hospitals across the country-an essential step in Labour’s Plan for Change, designed to reverse years of underinvestment and ensure public buildings are safe, modern, and fit for purpose.
In Weston, children will benefit from safer, warmer, and more energy-efficient classrooms. This includes urgent repairs such as fixing crumbling roofs and removing hazardous materials like asbestos-providing peace of mind for parents and ensuring that pupils can learn in a secure environment.
A government spokesperson said; "Labour’s plan is not just about bricks and mortar, but about delivering a strong foundation for children’s futures. This year alone, the government is investing a record £2.1 billion into the school estate-£300 million more than the previous year."
Dan Aldridge, MP for Weston, added; “Families in Weston know all too well the risks posed by years of Tory neglect-crumbling buildings and unsafe classrooms.
"Labour is delivering the change we need. By investing in our local schools, we’re giving children in Weston the safe and supportive environments they deserve to learn and grow.”
This investment is part of Labour’s wider commitment to give every child the best start in life-alongside free breakfast clubs, lower uniform costs, and a drive to raise school standards.
Looking ahead, a further £1.4 billion will accelerate Labour’s School Rebuilding Programme this year alone, with work starting at 100 schools nationwide.
These new high-quality buildings will be equipped with cutting-edge facilities-sports halls, IT rooms, kitchens, and outdoor play areas-ensuring schools are not just functional, but places where children can truly thrive"
Cllr Catherine Gibbons, deputy Leader of North Somerset Council and and Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Families and Lifelong Learning said; “Children will benefit from a share of £470 million for projects in education and healthcare settings, set to fix crumbling roofs and remove dangerous asbestos, restoring pride in England’s classrooms and undoing years of dangerous Conservative neglect.
The funding is part of Labour’s mission to fix the dire state of public services inherited from the previous government and deliver investment and reform through the “Plan for Change”, supporting children to get the best start in life”
£2.1 billion has gone into the school estate this year – £300m more than the previous year – evidence of delivering for the public and investing in our children, their futures and the future of this country.”
Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, said; “The defining image of schools under the last government was children learning under steel props to stop ceilings collapsing. That’s unacceptable. Labour is changing that. Our investment will make sure every child can learn in a school that is safe, warm, and welcoming. This is about restoring pride in our public services and showing every child their future matters.”
