Weston-super-Mare will host a range of events on Sunday 8th March to commemorate International Women’s Day.

Building on the success of last year’s exhibition at the Weston Museum, curators Sarah Freear and Lyn Gilbert have organized a town-wide celebration.

This year’s program honors inspirational women from every walk of life—from global icons who changed the course of history to the incredible local women making a difference in our community today.

The exhibitions will feature a diverse range of trailblazers, including pioneering Bristol Channel swimmer Kathleen Thomas, civil rights icon Rosa Parks, activist Emma Watson, and the World Cup-winning Lionesses.

Speaking on the vision behind the event, co-organiser Sarah Freear said:

“By embracing inclusion and compassion is the best route to a future where everyone within our community can grow from the promise of progress and opportunity.”

Local organisation “One Voice Rising” is hosting a gathering at The Winter Gardens. Attendees are welcome from 12pm with doors open 1pm - 6pm.

The afternoon will include meditation, singing, gentle movement, dance and small sharing circles, creating a space for connection through voice, body, mind and heart.

Laura Ireland of One Voice Rising said;

“You will be welcomed into spaces of connection and grounding — music, laughter, creativity, nervous system regulation, and deep presence.

This is women meeting women — without hierarchy, fixing, or comparison. Held within our sacred agreement, a space of love & kindness.

Here we learn what it is to gather, to be together, where we get to remember what it is to trust again, and to know that together we can make a difference.”
