Big Win for Weston as Government Backs Pubs and Music Venues Following Dan Aldridge's Campaign

Weston-super-Mare MP Dan Aldridge has welcomed new government support for pubs and live music venues after months of campaigning to ease the tax burden on the hospitality sector.

The Government has announced a 20% cut in business rates for pubs, clubs and live music venues, benefiting around 32,000 businesses across England from next year and saving the average venue around £1,100 annually.

The announcement follows sustained lobbying from Dan, who has repeatedly raised the challenges facing hospitality businesses both in Parliament and as a member of the Business and Trade Committee.

He has also been a leading voice as Vice-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Hospitality and Tourism, calling for reforms including a reduction in VAT and a fairer business rates system.

Dan has consistently warned that Weston's pubs, restaurants and music venues are the backbone of the town's visitor economy and community life, arguing that rising costs were forcing too many businesses to the brink.

Welcoming the announcement, Dan Aldridge MP said: "This is a really positive step forward for Weston.

For months I've been pressing ministers to recognise the pressures facing our pubs, music venues and hospitality businesses. I've raised it repeatedly in the Business and Trade Committee and Commons because I know just how important these businesses are to our town.

"Hospitality is the beating heart of Weston. It creates jobs, attracts visitors, supports our high street and provides the places where our communities come together.

"I'm delighted the Government has listened and acted. Cutting business rates will give many businesses some much-needed breathing space, helping them invest, protect jobs and keep their doors open."
