The pipe can be used for ordinary tobacco but are primarily used for the smoking of Cannabis, a Class B drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1971.

A spokesperson for North Somerset Council said;

“While the sale of cannabis‑related paraphernalia is not illegal, we encourage retailers to act responsibly and consider the impact of how and where such products are displayed, particularly in locations that are highly visible to children and young people.”

James Oakley, Headteacher of nearby Mendip Green Primary School said:

“As a local primary school headteacher, I am deeply concerned by reports of drug‑related paraphernalia being sold in local shops and placed at a child’s eye‑level alongside sweets. This is completely inappropriate and puts children at risk of being exposed to items they are far too young to understand.

Schools work tirelessly to educate pupils about making safe and healthy choices, but situations like this undermine those efforts and place an additional burden on both families and educators. Parents should be able to take their children into local shops without worrying about them encountering items linked to drug misuse.

We all share a responsibility to protect children, and I urge local retailers to consider the impact of their decisions. Our community is strongest when we work together to create environments where children feel safe, supported, and able to thrive.”

Weston Independent News requested the contact details of the new owner for a statement, however this was not able to be provided.
