Cllr Terry Porter, the Conservative member of North Somerset Council, representing the Hutton and Locking ward has died.
Cllr Porter served as councillor on North Somerset Council since 2009 and during that time chaired the Community and Corporate Organisation Policy and Scrutiny Panel (during the previous Conservative administration).

Cllr Michael Pryke, Leader of the Conservative Group on North Somerset Council said: “I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Councillor Terry Porter, who died peacefully at home on Friday.
Terry dedicated his life to public service and to the communities he loved. Having first served as a councillor on Hutton Parish Council, he was elected to North Somerset Council in 2009 to represent the residents of Hutton and Locking, a role he carried out with unwavering commitment for more than seventeen years.
Throughout his time on North Somerset Council, Terry served in a number of important positions, including Chair of Council. He was widely respected across the political spectrum as a thoughtful, diligent and principled councillor. I will personally miss hisadvice and thoughtful contributions shared with his usual good humour and charm.
Beyond the council chamber, Terry was a pillar of the Hutton community. He devoted countless hours to local organisations and causes, particularly through his work with the Hutton Horticultural Society, helping to organise fundraising events and the much-
loved annual Hutton Show. His contribution to village life was immense and leaves a lasting legacy.
On behalf of the Conservative Group, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences toTerry’s wife Jan, his family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
Terry's dedication to public service, his kindness and his steadfast commitment to his community will not be forgotten. He will be greatly missed by colleagues across North Somerset and by the many residents whose lives he touched over the years”
Cllr Mike Bell (Lib Dem), Leader of North Somerset Council said: “Terry was a long-standing Hutton Parish councillor before being elected to represent Hutton and Locking on North Somerset Council in June 2009, where he has served continuously ever since in various roles, including as Chair of Council and Chair of the Community and Corporate Organisation Panel. He was always a voice of reason on the council, respected for his common sense approach and as an authority on planning matters that will be sorely missed.
Terry was a pillar of his local community and will be remembered for his significant contribution, including being a key member of the Hutton Horticultural Society, organising fundraising and the annual Hutton Show.
I extend my deepest condolences to his wife Jan, his family and friends and anyone who knew him.”
Cllr Catherine Gibbons (Labour), Deputy Leader on North Somerset Council and Leader of the Labour Group said: “I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my colleague, Councillor Terry Porter.
Terry devoted many years of his life to serving the people of Hutton and Locking, first on Hutton Parish Council and then on North Somerset Council from 2009. He took on a number of important roles during that time, including Chair of Council and Chair of the Community and Corporate Organisation Panel. He brought a wealth of experience, sound judgement and a calm, considered approach to everything he did, and he earned the respect of colleagues from across the political spectrum.
Terry’s commitment didn’t stop at the council chamber. He cared deeply about his community and gave his time so generously, whether through the Hutton Horticultural Society, organising the annual Hutton Show, or supporting local fundraising. He was someone who quietly got on with making a difference, and Hutton is a better place because of his dedication.
Although we sat on opposite sides of the political chamber, I always found Terry to be kind, thoughtful and approachable. He had integrity and a genuine commitment to doing what he believed was best for the people he represented. He will be greatly missed by colleagues and by the many people whose lives he touched through his years of public service.
My thoughts are with his wife, Jan, his family, friends and everyone who knew and loved him at this incredibly difficult time. May he rest in peace.”
Cllr Stuart Davies (Reform) said in response to the news: “My heartfelt condolences to Councillor Terry Porters family and friends a passionate councillor - I had the pleasure of working with him on the planning and regulatory committee and found him extremely down to earth with bags of common sense.”
