Police called to Worle Community School to child with kitchen knife

Police were called to Worle Community School earlier this month after a student was found by the school to be in possession of a kitchen knife.

Weston Independent News had been told by a source that is familiar with the incident and spoke to us on a condition of anonymity, that during the incident the student in question was placed in a room away from other students and police were called.

The source further alleges that the school did not initiate a lockdown procedure because Oftsed were in attendance on an inspection at the time of the incident on Wednesday 3rd June.

Ofsted have confirmed to Weston Independent News that they were in attendance at the school on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd June.

Police have said that the bladed article was a kitchen knife and that the child who was in possession of the knife is not a teenager.

With Worle Community school serving students between 11-16, the child was only 11 or 12 years old.

A spokesperson for Worle Community School said: “We can confirm that earlier this month a pupil brought a prohibited object into school, which was immediately confiscated by a member of staff.

Parents were notified at the time and the incident has been managed through the school's disciplinary process". 

A spokesperson for Avon & Somerset Police said: “We received a report of a child taking a bladed article to a school in Worle on Wednesday 3 June.

"Officers attended to take initial accounts and spoke with teachers and students. A voluntary interview was then held with the child and enquiries are ongoing.

"No lockdown procedure was required by the school"
