Reform v Restore: Local Elections 8 months away but some already on manoeuvres
Shortly off of the back of the Hutton & Locking by-election which saw Reform leave all but the Liberal Democrat’s far behind, the Weston-super-Mare Restore Party, who did not stand in the by-election, held one of their first meetings since being formed which saw dozens in attendance.
With the local elections for both North Somerset Council & Weston Town Council coming up in May next year, the political parties of all colours are already beginning to gear up for what will likely be one of the most febrile local elections in recent decades.
Weston Independent News has learnt that there a number of local members from amongst Reform and Restore who are considering defecting to the other, as they are uncertain of which party is their best option for being elected to North Somerset Council, but are yet to make a final decision this far out from when nominations need to be made.
All the individuals that we approached regarding the matter declined to comment.
After the local elections on May 6th, the political makeup of North Somerset Council could look very different, however whichever party wins control of the council will still need to contend with the significant funding pressures the current administration faces.
Let’s hope we can at least get Christmas out the way before too many leaflets come through residents doors that inevitably end up in the bin.
