A street warden who operates as part of the Weston Business Improvement District (BID) Team detained a youth today who was in possession of a knife.
The knife, which a witness has told Weston Independent News, was exposed and not in its packaging had been stolen from a local store just before 1pm this afternoon.
Weston Independent News has learnt that BID team member Simon Vowles was working in the town centre and was alerted to the incident.

Cllr James Clayton, who is also a member of the BID Team said; “I would like to formally recognise my colleague Simon Vowles for his exceptional bravery and swift actions in Weston town centre today.”
”When alerted that a youth had stolen a large knife from a local store, Simon acted immediately and without hesitation. He apprehended the individual and successfully disarmed him, ensuring the weapon could not be used to cause harm.”
“Simon’s decisive intervention was potentially life-saving. Given the serious risk that the knife could have been used against members of the public, his courage and presence of mind undoubtedly prevented what could have been a far more serious incident.”
“His actions demonstrate outstanding bravery, community spirit, and a clear commitment to the safety of others. Weston is safer because of individuals like Simon (Street Wardens) who are willing to step forward in critical moments.”
Avon & Somerset Police have been contacted for a statement
