The Pavilion Beefeater pub and restaurant on Hutton Moor Road in Weston-super-Mare is set to close after Whitbread — the company behind Premier Inn — announced it will shut down all of its Brewers Fayre and Beefeater locations.
The decision is expected to lead to nearly 4,000 job losses across the UK. The Weston venue is one of five sites in Somerset included in the closure plans.
This move is part of Whitbread’s wider five-year strategy to transition into a “pure-play hotel business,” focusing on expanding Premier Inn, which it describes as the UK’s leading hotel brand known for quality and value.
Chief executive Dominic Paul said the company intends to replace its branded restaurants with integrated food and drink options tailored to hotel guests, while also creating space for additional rooms expected to generate higher profits.
He added that ongoing efforts to strengthen the company’s commercial performance and efficiency will help it maintain a leading position in the market and gain ground on competitors facing growth challenges.
A closing date for The Pavilion in Weston-super-Mare has not yet been confirmed.
