As the future of the Tropicana continues to be discussed, with Live Nation still being the preferred operator of the site, Cllr Jemma Coles (Liberal Democrat) has said that a Lido IS an option being discussed at the next meeting of North Somerset Council.

In response to a question from the member of the public regarding a Lido returning to the Tropicana, Cllr Jemma Coles said: “A Lido is included in the options being considered l. Option 3 looks at bringing back a swimming pool or lido, although it’s not specifically a restoration of the original 1930s design.

Unfortunately, it’s not being recommended by officers, largely because of the cost of building and running it. But it is one of the options councillors will be considering next week.”

The Tropicana ceased operating as a swimming pool and Lido back in 2000 and conservative estimates undertaken a few years ago placed to the cost of returning the site similarly as before as being in the tens of millions of pounds.
