As Israel and the USA launch attacks against Iran, some residents in Weston-super-Mare are concerned for their families who live in the region.
So far Iran has undertaken retaliatory attacks across the Middle East against US interests in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Just one person who has family that have been affected by the attacks is James Clayton, whose sister lives in Dubai.
James Clayton said:
“My sister has lived in Dubai for 2 years with her husband and children. We’re all in a family WhatsApp group and she shared with us this morning that flights have been stopped and Iran has been targeting Abu Dhabi and Dubai”
“Having my sister and nieces in Dubai during a time of conflict is a quiet, unrelenting worry. You carry on with daily life, but beneath it all is the hope that distance will keep them safe, and that calmer days will come soon”

MP for Weston-super-Mare Dan Aldridge said;
“Due to reported missile attacks, British nationals in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and United Arab Emirates should immediately shelter in place. “
”Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office guidance asks all British nationals to remain indoors in a secure location, avoid all travel and follow instructions from the local authorities.”
”My team are briefed and on hand if we need to support any constituents affected, but currently, follow the FCDO guidance as below, and if/when the situation changes, I will update.”
“Email is best if you need support at this point, daniel.aldridge.mp@parliament.uk, but will assess as the day goes on how best to manage.“
A government spokesperson said:
“Iran must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon and that is why we have continually supported efforts to reach a negotiated solution.
“Our immediate priority is the safety of UK nationals in the region and we will provide them with consular assistance, available 24/7.
“As part of our longstanding commitments to the security of our allies in the Middle East, we have a range of defensive capabilities in the region, which we have recently bolstered. We stand ready to protect our interests.
“We do not want to see further escalation into a wider regional conflict.”
The UK did not participate in these strikes.
