Weston Hospice issues statement denying closure rumours on social media

Weston Hospice has been forced to issue a statement dispelling rumours circulating on social media today that the much loved hospice is about to close
A spokesperson for Weston Hospice said:
“Weston Hospicecare is aware of a rumour circulating on social media this morning that we are about to close.
We can reassure you that this is completely untrue.
Like all hospices, we face cost pressures, but we are not even cutting our front-line services, let alone closing, and be assured if we were ever approaching such a situation then our local community would be the first to know about it, directly from us.”
Hospices across the UK are facing mounting financial pressures as the cost of providing end-of-life care continues to rise, while funding struggles to keep pace with demand.
Unlike NHS hospitals, many hospices rely heavily on charitable donations, fundraising events, legacies and community support to cover the cost of their services, with statutory funding often covering only part of their expenditure.
Rising staffing costs, higher energy bills, inflation and the growing complexity of patients’ needs have placed additional strain on already stretched budgets.
At the same time, the cost-of-living crisis has made it harder for some members of the public to donate, leaving hospices increasingly reliant on a smaller pool of charitable income to bridge the gap.
