Armed Police arrest male on suspicion of possessing a firearm

A man has been arrested after armed police were called to a street in Weston-super-Mare town centre this afternoon (Thursday, May 28).

Police were called to Walliscote Grove Road at around 2.12pm following reports of a suspected firearm inside a residential property.
Armed officers attended the scene and arrested a man on suspicion of possessing a firearm. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue. A suspected airsoft gun was also recovered from the property.
One eyewitness claimed officers aimed firearms at the property while shouting for someone to exit with their hands raised.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said:
“At 2.12pm we received a report of a suspected firearm inside a residential property in Walliscote Grove Road in Weston-super-Mare.
“Armed officers were deployed as a precaution and they arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He remains in police custody
“A suspected airsoft gun was seized from the property."
