Average diesel price breaches £2 with analysts warning of higher prices to come

The average price of diesel at petrol stations in Weston-super-Mare has hit £2 a litre with analysts warning much higher prices could still be seen at our forecourts.

The only fuel station in the town not to be at £2 or more is Tesco on station road which is 197.9p today (Monday 28th September). The most expensive diesel price is a whopping 217.9p for their premium diesel range.

It comes as national reports have suggested the country is running out of diesel, with fears rates could hit £3 per litre.

This fear is attributed to not just the war of Iran which has hampered both shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for oil to depart the Middle East, but threats by President Trump to stop exporting diesel to Europe as a political move to try and reduce fuel prices their, prior to pivotal midterm elections in November.

Local MP, Dan Aldridge has previously raised the issue of Weston-super-Mare having higher fuel prices that nearby towns saying back in April:

“Fuel being more expensive in Weston than just up the road, is not okay.

Following my meeting with Rachel Reeves last month, I have written to her to formally raise the issue of petrol price discrepancies affecting Weston.

Too many people here are paying more at the pump than nearby areas, and it’s simply not right.

I’ll also be meeting with the Competition and Markets Authority next week to push this further and get answers on why this is happening, and what can be done about it.

I’ll keep pressing this until Weston gets a fair deal.”
