There are set to be changes to bus services in North Somerset, following feedback from the local community.
In April, First Bus and North Somerset Council reviewed the bus network and introduced changes to services in the region. These reviews were based on both passenger usage levels and community needs, with the aim of reducing the need for continued significant council subsidy of some services and avoid potential future losses.
Both North Somerset Council and First Bus received feedback from the community about the change to the 7 bus in Weston-super-Mare, highlighting difficulties around access to the High Street and Waterloo Street for some users.
Following discussions with First Bus, an agreement has been made to re-route the 9 service to cover this part of the previous 7 route, starting on Sunday 1 June 2025. The 9 bus will now travel via Alfred Street and the Boulevard, then turn right onto the seafront along Knightstone Road. The Winter Gardens and Marine Parade will not be served, with the Thatched Cottage stop available instead.
Cllr Hannah Young, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at North Somerset Council, said: “We recognise that some of the April changes have been difficult for some bus users and appreciate all the feedback from the community.
The challenge continues to be around stretching resources available to match competing demands. We’re working closely with operators to help them put in place commercial services that will continue into the future, and we are putting significant Government funding into supporting services that are vital to local communities where we can.
“We’ll continue to work with First Bus and other local operators to make adjustments where possible and thank everyone for their feedback direct to the Council, through our bus forum, local MPs and speaking to the bus operator directly.”
For those in Milton whose local service is the 7 and want to go to Weston seafront, users will be able to travel on the number 7 to Weston Interchange – change to the number 9 taking you past Tesco, down the Boulevard and turn right along the seafront towards Marine Lake.
People can pick up the number 9, which then takes you to Weston Interchange and the seafront.
Take any other services, such as the 6, 7 and 9 to Weston Interchange and walk to the seafront.
