Dan Aldridge MP has announced the return of the Weston Summer School, bringing together students from across Weston-super-Mare for two days of inspiration, skills-building and career opportunities.

Following the success of last year's inaugural event at the Grand Pier, the Summer School will once again connect young people with leading figures from business, technology, the creative industries, public service and entrepreneurship.

The initiative was created by Dan Aldridge after recognising that too many young people in coastal communities are told that success means leaving home.

The Summer School aims to challenge that idea by showcasing the opportunities available in Weston, the wider South West and beyond.

The programme will give students the opportunity to hear directly from successful professionals, take part in workshops, work with successful business owners, and explore career paths they may never have

previously considered.

Dan Aldridge MP said:

“I never had opportunities like this growing up, and that's exactly why I created the Weston Summer School.

“I want every young person in Weston to know that their future is not limited by where they come from.

We have talented, ambitious young people in our town, and they deserve the chance to meet inspiring people, explore different careers and build the confidence to pursue their ambitions.

“Too often, young people in coastal towns are told that opportunity exists somewhere else. I fundamentally disagree. My job is to bring opportunity to Weston and make sure local young people can see a future for themselves here.”

This year’s event will welcome representatives from Weston College to discuss how the workshops feed into different courses or apprenticeships.

The event will feature speakers and organisations from a wide range of sectors, helping students understand the many routes available to them after school, college or university.

Pat Jones, Principal and CEO, Weston College Group:

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Dan Aldridge MP to promote his exciting Enterprise Summer School opportunity for young people across our community.

This programme offers invaluable opportunities for young people to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and deepen their understanding of the world beyond the classroom.

By bringing together politics, business, social change and career development, the Summer School will inspire participants to think ambitiously about their futures and the positive impact they can make in society.

The Weston College team will also be on site throughout the event to provide careers guidance and support, helping participants explore future pathways and understand how different courses and qualifications can help them achieve their career aspirations.”

The first Weston Summer School brought together students from schools across North Somerset and received widespread support from educators, employers and community leaders.

This year's event is expected to welcome even more young people, continuing its mission to inspire the next generation and ensure that talent and ambition can thrive in Weston-super-Mare.
