Weston's MP; Dan Aldridge has today called for the resumption of humanitarian aid to Gaza and for the Government to recognise the state of Palestine.
In a statement Dan Aldridge said; "Today, I was in the Commons Chamber for the Statement by the Foreign Secretary on Israel and the Palestinian Territories. The strength and unity of the anger felt by those on the government benches were palpable.
I am calling for the urgent resumption of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Civilians must be protected, medical facilities safeguarded, and access to treatment ensured
I remain deeply concerned about the escalating violence in the West Bank. Israeli settlements are illegal under international law and represent a major obstacle to peace. Neither I nor the UK government recognise the Occupied Palestinian Territories as part of Israel.
Recently, I joined over 70 Labour MP's and Peers in signing a letter urging the Government to immediately recognise the State of Palestine. This is a vital step towards a just and lasting two-state solution.
I have also written to Minister Falconer seeking clarity on the concerns raised about UK arms sales to Israel. Like many of my colleagues, I am clear that all arms exports that could be used in the conflict must remain suspended and that the UK must uphold its legal and moral obligations under international law
I will continue to advocate for a diplomatic solution that ensures peace, security, and justice for both Israelis and Palestinians, and for a future where Gaza's territory and population are protected, not diminished or displaced."
According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, an estimated 56,000 Palestinians and Israelis have been casualties of the war since the October 7, 2003 attacks.
