UK Town of Culture is a new national competition that celebrates towns with strong identities, creative ambition and a great story to tell. The winning town will host a year of arts, heritage and community activity, bringing together local people, artists, organisations and visitors to tell the story of the place they call home.

Cllr Ciaran Cronnelly, leader of Weston Town Council said;

I love Weston-super-Mare, I love the creativity of our town, the energy of residents and businesses, and the powerful stories we have to tell. We have so much to celebrate and shout about - so let’s shout about it on a national stage!

I am incredibly excited that a town-wide partnership is coming together to put Weston forward for UK Town of Culture 2028.

A bid is being developed and it starts with a collaborative Expression of Interest this March.

If successful, Weston will be shortlisted to develop a full bid with the community, with the final decision in 2027 and a year of events in 2028.

This is a moment for us all to get behind the town and its bid for Town of Culture.”
