Cllr Martin Williams, the current Mayor of Weston-super-Mare and the Conservative councillor for Kewstoke on North Somerset Council and Councillor for Worlebury on Weston-super-Mare Council may be defecting to Restore Britain after he has completed his period as Mayor, a source close to Restore Britain has exclusively told Weston Independent News.

It is alleged that Cllr Martin Williams met with Oliver Louis, the former organiser for Reform UK in Weston-super-Mare, after he defected to Restore Britain earlier this year and that the decision was made that when Cllr Martin Williams finishes his current term as Mayor of Weston-super-Mare, he would announce that he was defecting to Restore Britain as a prelude to the party launching their campaign across the town for the local elections in May 2027.
Weston Independent News has contacted Cllr Martin Williams who denied the story saying;
“I have no plans to defect and I will not be seeking re-election at the local elections in May 2026 but I am happy to put on record that I would be disappointed if the Conservative Party was to reselect John Penrose to stand as the Conservative Party candidate at the next General Election as I would see it as a step backwards”
