High Sheriff of Somerset presents Weston RNLI crew with long service awards

Martin Fear, Terry Wells and Richard Spindler all received Royal National Lifeboat Institution long service medals presented by the High Sheriff of Somerset, Janet Montgomery and The Mayor of Weston-super-Mare, Councillor Martin Williams on Sunday 25th January 2026.

Volunteers are the heart of the RNLI and make up the vast majority of their staff, 97% of their frontline lifesavers are volunteers and on call 24/7 365 days a year.
Janet Montgomery who presented the crew awards said; “I just wanted to say thank you to all the volunteers who really make this unit thrive here in Weston-super-Mare and what a valuable job you all do to keep people safe and save lives. We shouldn’t underestimate that ability to do that.”
