The M5 will close for two consecutive weekends idue to bridge refurbishment works taking place at Junction 19 in North Somerset.

The planned works include repairs to the bridge’s concrete parapets, replacement of damaged expansion joints, resurfacing, and improvements to drainage and verges. National Highways said the upgrades will provide smoother journeys for drivers and reduce the need for frequent maintenance closures.

To carry out the work, the south deck of the bridge will be closed from 8pm on Friday, March 6, until 6am on Monday, March 9. The north deck will then be closed the following weekend, from 8pm on Friday, March 13 until 6am on Monday, March 16.

The M5 will remain open as usual, and the two weekend closures will allow only limited movements around the junction, with clearly signed diversion routes in place.
