Weston-super-Mare Town Council has announced that Weston Artspace will be moving into the Old Town Quarry as part of the site’s much-anticipated reopening in the coming weeks.

This new chapter for Weston Artspace marks the start of an exciting partnership with Weston-super-Mare Town Council, built on a shared vision to make the Old Town Quarry a welcoming cultural and creative destination for the whole community.

The move has been made possible through successful funding from Culture West Arts Membership, a West of England-wide initiative exploring ways to increase access to affordable art spaces and resources for artists.

The project is funded by the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) and Arts Council England, with support from Bath Spa University.

A newly installed cabin at the Quarry will provide a dedicated space for members of Weston Artspace to explore and express their creativity through art and other creative activities. The space will be available to members year-round, managed directly by the Weston Artspace team.

Artspace will be announcing an exciting and varied programme of activities as part of their relocation to the Old Town Quarry, creating an inclusive environment that fosters artistic growth, collaboration, and community connection. The official opening date and details of a community launch event will be announced soon, inviting residents and visitors to come and celebrate this exciting new chapter at the Old Town Quarry.

The Artspace directors said; “This is a fantastic opportunity for our members to have a home in the beautiful setting of the Old Town Quarry. We look forward to welcoming new members – being part of Artspace is about more than creating art; it’s about connecting, collaborating, and supporting the local creative community.”

Cllr Ciaran Cronnelly, Leader of the Council, said:

“The Old Town Quarry is a treasured part of Weston’s heritage, and we’re committed to helping it thrive as a welcoming space for creativity, culture, and community. By partnering with Weston Artspace, we are supporting local artists, celebrating our history, and strengthening Weston’s identity. This collaboration will bring new opportunities, enhance our cultural offer, and help make Weston an even more attractive, inclusive, and vibrant place for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.”

The reopening date for the Old Town Quarry, along with any other details, will be announced soon.
